Spotlight on - selling works with Christine Ingram

Christine is one of Ringwood Art Society’s most prolific painters. She also runs the “Friday Painters” club at Greyfriers C0mmunity Centre every Friday morning.

I asked her, “how do you go about selling your work”? This is a summary in Christine’s own words….

I paint mainly alla prima in oils and generally complete 1 or 2 paintings a day, so you can see how quickly I can run out of storage space!

Ebay to the rescue….

It is free to list items, and there is only a fee of around 15% once a sale has been made. I put artworks on as an auction initially for 10 days at a minimum bid I would be happy to let it go at, and eBay automatically relists 8 times.

If they haven’t sold by then, I get alerted by email to relist again, at which stage I take them off auction and relist at a higher buy it now price, where it can sit there forever. Once I have listed one, I can then click sell similar item for subsequent listings which saves having to input every detail each time.

There are considerations…..

Obviously you have to bear in mind postage, and I don’t put on bigger than 16ins x 12ins. I only offer small paintings complete with a frame ie 3ins x 3ins up to 6ins x 6ins. It’s quite fun to watch bidders and offers that pop up.

Finally….

I will never make my fortune, but together with art on Facebook marketplace, I make enough to cover all my art supplies and expenses, and some left over to pay towards our caravan hols. I’m happy with that.

Thank you to Christine for sharing….

If you have a story for “Spotlight On”, please email it….but be aware we can’t promise to post them all!
